This Frequently Asked Questions page (FAQ) serves as a means to answer any of the major burning questions you may have about Cosplay a Day.
Why did you make this website?
Over the past 2 decades we have taken thousands of pictures at dozens of conventions around the US and Canada. It seemed a waste to keep them to ourselves, so we created this site to put the focus on some of our favorite cosplayers over the years and to celebrate their creativity. It is our hope to expand this site in the coming months and years to share our love for professional cosplayers, costume creators, and especially cosplay individual groups that gather to do good in their community with their talents for dressing up as our favorite heroes and villains in movies, television, comics, video games, and more.
What do I do if I find myself on Cosplay a Day?
You can do nothing or maybe you can just tell all your friends that you were included on one of the coolest (we’re biased) cosplay websites in the galaxy! But what we’d really like to do is let us know that you found yourself here and that you want more people to know about your cosplay, especially if you work hard at making your own costumes and/or do it to support those in need, not just show off at cons. We’ll share as little or as much as you want (to a point), including your social media links or your cosplay group website if you have one. We’re all about connecting the comic-con, cosplay, and geek community in general and we’re more than happy to give you credit for the hard work you’ve put into your cosplay. Just CONTACT US using our contact page to help us get to know you better.
Where do you get your pictures and can I put my pictures on there? I have lots of cosplay pictures of myself!
All pictures are taken by one person and that will be our sole resource for the foreseeable future. We don’t take solicitations from other photographers or cosplayers, no matter how obviously better their pictures are compared to the ones you see here. And for now, we’re not doing specialty photo shoots just to get you on the site. You’re just going to have to get in front of a camera at whatever comic convention you can get yourself to. We’re happy to support almost any of the cosplayers that we see at events we go to, so don’t be shy when it comes to people asking to take your picture (especially with press badges – *hint*). You never know when you might show up here.
I don’t remember giving you permission to take my picture.
No picture is taken without consent of those pictured at the time it is taken. All pictures have been taken under the attendee photography consent agreements publicized at any event. When you’re at these events, it is likely you will be photographed even incidentally and you consent to being photographed by being on those premises and acquiring a badge or bracelet to attend the event in any capacity. However, “Cosplay is NOT Consent”. We strive to make sure that everyone who has their picture taken and posted here knows that their picture is being taken and that they allow it. Should you not want to be depicted here, skip down to “I don’t want my picture on Cosplay a Day” for more information.
If I give you my personal information, what are you going to do with it?
Personal information of any individual depicted will not be shared without the express consent of the individual, except in the case of children.
NO information on children depicted on Cosplay a Day will be shared on the site for safety purposes. Please share your personal information carefully, especially in the case of a group image or in regard to a cosplay group that includes children.
I don’t want my picture on Cosplay a Day. How can I get my picture removed?
Requests to have images removed will be handled on a case by case basis and can only be received by the person depicted (except in extenuating circumstances) once they have verified their identity. Use our CONTACT FORM to make a request.
Can I get a copy of that picture that you posted of me?
Yes. But we will only share the original pictures with the person depicted in the image (with few exceptions) only if they can provide proof of identity. The pictures are not available to the general public upon request and will not be sold for commercial purposes.
Will you include pictures that feature violence, nudity, or sexual situations?
This is a family friendly site for the most part, but there will be no depictions of nudity or graphic sex on this site. Additionally, our intent is to never objectify or shame someone based on how they are dressed. However, some of the costumes can at times appear to be a little risque and revealing for some people’s tastes. Some might even appear to be violent or gory at times, but never excessively so. Consider this site to have images that are mostly rated “G”, but will sometimes range into the “PG” or “PG-13” levels, if you compared them to movies, so view at your own risk if you’re sensitive to such things. The pictures will not include anything that wouldn’t be allowed to be publicly seen at a comic convention populated by adults and children alike.
Are you posting these pics to make fun of cosplayers or certain types of people?
We want to represent all kinds of cosplayers, regardless of their age, race, skin color, body type, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, and the characters they’re dressed up as. IN NO WAY are we attempting to ridicule or demean any person in any way. We encourage EVERYONE to express themselves without fear or shame to celebrate the characters and stories we all love in the way they desire most. This is a bully and shame free zone. If you find these pictures are shared in a way that is unflattering or in a negative light, please let us know immediately.
If you have any other major questions you’d like answered in our FAQ that you think would be helpful to others, please (you guessed it) let us know via our Contact Us page.
